The Emirate of Dubai and the eponymous city are worth seeing. The official language in Dubai is Arabic, although the majority will also speak English, especially the younger residents. Some older locals may have difficulties with english though. And it is very funny when they work in such organisations as police.  :) Anyway there are more expatriates in Dubai than locals and all the supermarkets and services are full of Indians and Philipinos that can speak english well enough.

Dubai is a religious state where the main religion is the Muslim faith - Islam. There are also Hindus, Sikhs and Christians in Dubai. Even a Catholic church can be found here and it has almost a hundred thousand members. The special thing about Dubai is that there is only one Hindu temple here and also a Sikgurudwara. It can be found in any other emirate of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). But open preaching of other religions but Islam is prohibited in Dubai. They are tolerating other religions only because it is a cosmopolitan city with a lot of expats and tourists.

It is wide thought that Dubai lives primarily on petroleum production. And it is true in some sence. They started to flourish when oil was found. But the leaders of the country have realized that petrolium is not forever it will look very bad when it is over. So they have invested a lot and expanded the tourism industry in Dubai. The sheikhs are always keen for visitors to Dubai's most expensive, nicest and greatest hotels. Due to the impressive and huge construction projects in Dubai, Dubai is now on everyone's lips, around the world. In the last 10 years, but before the global depresion, the Dubai property rental prices have risen considerably. This influence the overall prices in Dubai, so it became a really expensive place to live.
